In late October 2026 I ran my free site check on the websites of businesses listed in OpenStreetMap in Los Gatos and Campbell. After setting aside chains and pages on other companies' platforms, 289 had a website of their own. 195 gave a full result. The others did not open for the check, turned it away or answered only in part.
No business is named here. They did not ask to be checked, and the counts are what matter.
The most common problems
How many of the 195 sites have each problem
Three of these bear directly on being found nearby. A page title is usually the line a search result shows, and 105 of the 195 do not put their town in the title or main heading. The search description is the text that often sits under that line, and 105 are missing one or have one too long to show whole. Structured data states the name, address, phone number and hours in a form search engines read without guessing, and 64 have none.
Across both towns the scores ran from 6 to 94. Only 6 of the 195 reached the top band, In good shape.
Los Gatos
80 Los Gatos sites gave a full result, with a middle score of 63. The main content was slow on the simulated phone on 50, the search description was missing or long on 42, and 35 did not name the town in the title or main heading. 34 show no picture when the link is shared, and 30 have no DMARC policy, the record that tells other mail servers what to do with email falsely sent in the business's name.

Campbell
115 Campbell sites gave a full result, also with a middle score of 63. 70 did not name the town in the title or main heading, the search description was missing or long on 63, and the main content was slow on the simulated phone on 61. 48 have no DMARC policy, and 46 show no picture when the link is shared.

What these numbers cannot say
The list is whoever OpenStreetMap has, which anyone can edit, so it is no random sample and includes offices that get few walk-in customers. The check reads one page of each site from the outside. The speed test runs on a simulated phone slower than most visitors', and a business's real visitors may wait less.
Opening hours are left out of the counts. On 1 November I found that many sites told they showed none had them on another page, and changed the check, so the count from these scans is too high. Scores here come from before that change.
These two towns are all I have checked so far, so this says nothing about the rest of the Bay Area. Your own site can be checked now, free, at shahroudi.us/check. It takes about half a minute and the address is not kept. If you would rather have someone fix what it finds, see what I offer small and medium businesses across the Bay Area.
